"I will get students out into the field more to experience the awesomeness of the bay; the more the students see/experience, the more they'll care."
Cal Alive Academy
Soon we will bring our Cal Alive! - Exploring Biodiversity program to the web. Seventeen years ago we released the original series that contained three CD-ROMs and a comprehensive teacher guide. The program not only strove to move the classroom from the chalkboard to the computer, but also aimed to change the face of in-class learning from textbooks and flat diagrams to an interactive environment with colorful animations and hands-on experiments.
Using California as its classroom, the Cal Alive! program teaches valuable life and earth sciences lessons that meet with California content standards while fostering an appreciation of the unique environment that local students live in every day. Through a series of CD-ROMs, complementary worksheets, and lesson plans, students learn about the 53 distinct habitats in California, as well as these habitats' formation, wildlife, climate, and much more!
In anticipation of its 20th anniversary, and to stay current with classroom needs and practices, the Cal Alive! program will get a new venue, moving away from the CD-ROMs of old and finding a new home, right here, on the Internet. Soon you will be able to come to this webpage and subscribe to all the great Cal Alive! features you've grown to love or are experiencing for the very first time. During our soft launch subscribers will be privy to our teaching modules about the natural processes of California and its habitats. As Cal Alive Academy grows, you can look forward to interactive experiments, online student assessments, printable worksheets, and in-depth lesson plans.
We hope you'll join us during our soft launch, and make sure to tell all your colleagues and friends about the launch of our new Cal Alive Academy.
