"I specifically wanted tips on managing groups outdoors and integrating the subject matter into other core areas. This was addressed in a simple, easy to implement fashion. A teacher would not have to change her whole teaching style or take on a new curriculum beast to incorporate this kind of learning into her school day."
Our mission is to invigorate K-12 science teaching by providing teachers and outdoor educators with the power of field-based, hands-on, three dimensional learning. CIB supports educators with the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, fostering environmental stewardship and an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math within students. We emphasize creativity and collaboration in our programs as we explore cross-cutting concepts central to a deep understanding of natural phenomena.
We believe that students must experience the natural world as an integral part of their education, and teachers are the key to transforming students into conservation-minded citizens. Our goal is to facilitate the development of meaningful and engaging lessons that can be used to foster a love of STEM and a desire for environmental stewardship in students from all backgrounds across California.
Through our professional development programming, CIB brings scientist and experts in pedagogy to educators to teach them about the latest discoveries in science, technology, and the environment, how to integrate them as interactive lessons into the current standards and how to apply them to units taught both within the classroom and using the outdoor environment. CIB’s interactive media, teacher’s guides and professional development workshops help educators inspire students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to love science and to become conservation-minded citizens.
