Each summer and fall Cal Alive! presents a series of institutes and workshops that prepares K-12 science and environmental educators to bring the scientific concepts at work in California into their classrooms. Courses integrate investigative projects, hands-on activities, and field exploration in regional, state, and national parks all while incorporating the latest science standards.Past topics have included in-depth looks at climate change, the land-sea interface, and field journaling.

Our media pieces illuminate the invisible scientific processes that make our state's biodiversity possible. Each piece has been scientifically reviewed for accuracy as well as aligned to state standards. A combination of video, flash animation, interactive activities, and fun scientific games engage students through an array of topics including biodiversity, geology, and climate.

Through a combination of activity guides and resource books Cal Alive! hightens the power of traditional K-12 science curriculum. With our activities students work through exercises that focus on an array of disciplines including life sciences, geology, and physics. Each activity is California standards based to provide maximum benefit in the classroom. Our resource books give detailed background information that is accessible for all of California's citizens interested in learning more about the unique and varied biodiversity found throughout the state.
